Naval Times News: Impact is more than just a number. For this interview series, we revisited some of the well-cited papers published in some international journals and asked the authors to tell us about the real-world impact and applications of their research beyond the number of citations they garnered.

We got the opportunity to talk to Mr.Singh during Aishwarya award ceremony.
Vinay Singh was born in Uttarakhand, India. He is in the USA and has been a distinguished research scholar, IT specialist in computer science, and author of two computer books. He extended his research and wrote the first book on the topic of version control systems with the title “A Beginner’s Guide to Version Control Excellence’ under Dorrance publishers, USA. He is among the top researcher in computer science technology. He recently published another book on python “Introduction to Python: A pragmatic approach” with Barnes and Noble.

During Aishwarya Award ceremony, Naval Times spoke to Vinay about his research and how the augmented age will affect our lives in the future.

The author talks about what’s exciting and surprising in the version control system, How his research will impact economy and society, and what advice he would offer to young researchers who wants to pursue new research in Software Configuration Management and IT Innovation.

Question:
Can you introduce yourself and your primary focus of research?
VS:
I belong to the foothills of the Himalayas in a very small town. I came to the USA 10 years back. This is a beautiful country full of beautiful mindsets, patriotism, talent, and opportunities.

I am in the software industry and IT research for almost 15 years and previously spent two years as a lecturer in the IT department at DIT university. Apart from this, I served as a keynote speaker and member of several conferences at the international level. My area of research and expertise is “Version Control System” under Software Configuration Management and my all research direction is focused on how to make a better and holistic seamless business products by the help of migration from the traditional version control system to a Nextgen distributed version control system.

This is the current industry requirement and the software industry is struggling with it. Irony on the top on this is, so far there is no research work has been done in this direction and no single migration model is available to provide a holistic and seamless solution. My last 5 years efforts are to develop a model against this industry problem. You can see that my all research papers are focusing on these problems n how to make it better.

This involves process, Technology and colloboration. I invite the scientist and researchers from all over the world to come along and contribute in my research.

Question:
How is your research work important to the economy and society?
VS:
Even though I have been in the IT industry for the last 15 years but research has always in my blood, I always wanted to resolve several industry major problems through research perspective and propose a working model.

I was inspired on this problem with a real-time issues while working with Agilent on their migration project striving to adopt new modern technologies. This time has been very influential on me and showed me how IoT devices can be used to solve difficult problems that arise when trying to unravel the mysteries of the brain.

I was leading this migration effort and found that there was no single web support available and surprisingly neither there has been any research work done in this direction. I proactively initiated my research to identify the issues and challenges in this direction and then continued my research on how to develop a migration model by the use of a IOT NodeMCU device in Version Control Migration with pre-validation capability.
Trust, This is a unique migration model which ensures that how VCS migrations can be successful from end to end. Researching the issues and how to integrate the NodeMCU into migration required a new way of rethinking. Finally, my migration model was successful.

It is one model and flexible to all domains like financial, pharmaceutical, medical, insurance and banking, etc.
This research focuses on real-time industry problems as several industries need or will need this migration in the future. It will be soon a great hit. I have filed a patent for this. This interest led me to pursue a Ph.D. in the same field at UPES.
Question:
During the Aishwarya foundation award ceremony, you spoke on the Emerging Trends in IT and how you envision this new phase affecting our lives and what would you recommend to university students in response to these developments.
VS:
Technology is ever-changing and those wanting to remain at the helm of innovation must adapt. The consumer journey is charting a new course as customers and companies alike embrace emerging technologies. As tech trends such as DevOps, Cloud, artificial intelligence, and robotic process automation become more pervasive, the world will look to brands that can deliver with accuracy and real-time efficiency. Actually, Version Control is the backbone of each technology and my area of research is to improve the version control migration.

Question:
Can you briefly explain the research you published in International Journals?
VS:
I published my first paper in 2014 focusing on Distributed Systems on middleware systems. In 2019, I authored a research article “The Transition from Centralized (Subversion) VCS to Decentralized (Git) VCS: A Holistic Approach” which was published in the Journal of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. My next paper was focused as an extended work with the title ” A Novel Approach for Pre-Validation, Auto Resiliency & Alert Notification for SVN To Git Migration Using IOT Devices” where i emphasized what factors to be considered in Pre-migration validation, During-migration validation, and Post-migration validation. My other research article was published in 2021 with the title “A holistic, proactive and novel approach for pre, during and post-migration validation from subversion to git” in CMC kind of good Journal where I focused on SVN to GIT migration.

His research article with title “A detailed study of security patterns in DevOps and Version Control System” presented in B.R. AMBEDKAR NIT INSTITUTE has been awareded as the best research article.

Naval Times enjoyed a nice session with Mr. Singh. It is a matter of pride that the researchers from small town are enlightening the name of country in research & technology in the USA. We thank him about his research contribution and helping economy and society. We wish him luck for exploring his potential of building a better VCS migration model and his future alignment with industry.
